The return of Modern Life: Music Made to Measure

For those who remember it, Modern Life was never just a club night.

Born in Middlesbrough in the mid-1990s, beginning as a once-a-month Thursday night at The Arena before growing into a Saturday institution, Modern Life tapped into the same rich musical seam as legendary nights like Blow Up in London, Brighton Beach in Leeds, Kitten Casino in Edinburgh and Lordy Lord in London.

This was never nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. It was a movement built on immaculate taste and restless curiosity: British Beat, sharp-edged R&B, Soul, Northern Soul, psychedelia and garage sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with the new sounds bubbling up from Camden basements and indie clubs that would soon explode into what the world came to know as Britpop.

For many, Modern Life defined a generation in Middlesbrough. A place where scooters lined up outside, records mattered, clothes mattered and Saturday nights felt like they belonged to something bigger.

After unforgettable nights across various venues: ending on a high at The Arc in Stockton with appearances from the mighty Edwin Starr Band, Mother Earth, James Taylor Quartet and Secret Affair among many others – Modern Life returns for one very special day.

Joining us live are the sensational SolarFlares and Thee Strawberry Mynde, alongside Brighton Beach DJs Eddie Wainwright and Tony Pass spinning the sounds that shaped a culture and still fill dancefloors today.

Music: High octane Soul, Blues, RnB, Sixties POP, Northern Soul and Funk, Mod, Medway, Britpop and Indie

Sharp clothes optional. Good taste essential.
